Does the runner have to run with their mobile device in order for me to track them?
No, absolutely not. Our system has real-time access to the timing system used at the race. As long as the runner runs with their D-tag (supplied with their bib), you'll be able to track them.
Is there a website version of the App?
Yes, we are providing a website with the same split and ETA information for each runner as found in the iPhone app. You can access it via any Internet-enabled device. Please go to WhyDoYouRun.com for more information.
I've downloaded the app, but I can't find myself under Runner Tracking nor Results. What's up?
Runner registration information is entered into the app database as it becomes available. A final, complete update will be entered the night before the race. On the day of the race, you'll be able to use the full Runner Tracking and Results functionality.
What's the difference between your app and apps that provide GPS based tracking?
1) In this app, the runner does not have to run with their mobile device in order to be tracked. Our app accesses the timing system used along the course real-time. It is not dependent on GPS signal strength, GPS availability, nor the battery life of a smart phone device.
2) Our app is the Official Mobile Application for the 2011 LIVESTRONG Austin Marathon and Half Marathon and allows a spectator to search the official race registration for an athlete to follow.
3) Our app provides ETAs (Estimated Times of Arrival) to specific points along the course, including the finish line.
