Autism
By Autism Research Institute released on: 2009-09-23T02:33:25Z
Summary: The Autism Research Institute (ARI), a non-profit organization, was established in 1967 by Bernard Rimland, Ph.D. For over 40 years, ARI has focused its efforts on conducting and disseminating research findings on the triggers of autism and on methods of diagnosis and treatment. ARI's current director, Stephen M. Edelson, Ph.D., has been active in the field of autism for more than 30 years, and he worked closely with Dr. Rimland for 20 years.
There are two parts to this application. The first part is an advice paper written by Drs. James B. Adams, Stephen M. Edelson, Temple Grandin, and Bernard Rimland. The intended audience is parents of newly diagnosed children, and the overriding message is that "Autism Is Treatable." Topics discussed include prevalence, diagnosis, diets, nutritional supplements, gastrointestinal problems, vaccines, ABA, speech development and much more. This part of the application is free to install.
The second part of the application is an upgrade. It provides more in-depth information, along with recommended readings, about specific issues and treatments in the form of summaries and videos. Users can also access ARI's monthly e-newsletter, past issues from ARI's science newsletter, and more.
In addition, users can complete ARI's popular Autism Treatment Evaluation Checklist (ATEC). The ATEC is designed to help parents and professionals assess and monitor the child's behavior over time in the areas of (1) speech/language/communication, (2) sociability, (3) sensory/cognitive awareness, and (4) health/physical/behavior. ATEC scores are stored on the user's iphone/itouch and can be accessed at anytime.
Many of the new articles posted on www.Autism.com will also be uploaded to the application on a regular basis for no extra charge.
The cost of this upgrade is only 99 cents.

AutismTest
By Paws4Roel released on: 2009-07-23T07:43:37Z
Have you ever wondered if you, your child, or someone you know is on the Autism spectrum?
Now you can. This test was developed by S. Baron-Cohen, S. Wheelwright, R. Skinner, J. Martin and E. Clubley, (2001) at Cambridge University and is used in many places for online screening.
Although not a diagnostic tool, it is very accurate and can certainly be used as a guide line. Contacting a professional for further information is highly recommended however.
Paws4Roel is all about Autism as both myself and my son are Autistic. We would like to make the iPhone community more aware about Autism. Being Autistic is very special. Neurotypical (NT) people think and live along the linear, Autistics think and live in the quantum.
NOTE: In reply to some feedback left for AutismTest, I need to stress that AutismTest is NOT a definitive answer to having ASD. These tests have extensively been researched by the Autism Research Centre at Cambridge University and have shown that there is a clear link between the score of this test and an actual diagnosis. But again a high score doest NOT definitively suggest you have ASD.
Please remember that the AQ is not a diagnostic instrument, a high score on the AQ does not suggest that a diagnosis is warranted. It is purely a screening test. The test is NOT, as some reviewers suggest, out of date. The reviewers have not read the information on the AQ test and therefore have given a completely uninformative review.
Also have a look at "Five Little Monkeys" and "Old MacDonald" from LoeschWare. Their applications also support Autism Causes and are well worth looking at.
AutismTest is free. For more information about what we do, please visit our website.
Any feedback and support is much appreciated.
