Vishnu Sahasranaama

By Krishna Varmareleased on:2010-03-19T08:23:40Z

The Vishnu Sahasranaama (thousand names of Lord Vishnu) is a part of the Anushasana Parva of the Mahabharata. It was composed by Sanaka, one of the Kumaras (eternal living Youths) and was transmitted by Bhishma who recited it in the presence of Sri Krishna to the Pandava brothers when he was questioned thus by Yuddhisthira:
"Who is the Being who is the supreme Lord of all, who is the sole refuge of all and by praising whom man gains what is good and attains to salvation?"
The thousand names of Lord Vishnu is the answer that Bhishma gives to this enquiry.

This app aims to provide a pocket reference to this most sacred and commonly chanted Stotra.

iPuja

By WEBoot Studiosreleased on:2010-02-12T10:21:35Z

Need to Pray on the go? Need to express your faith anywhere? iPuja can help you with that.

iPuja is a Hindu prayer application. It feature hindu deities and the respective mantras to chant for each one. All the deities are actual Hindu Idols found at the Shiv Shakti Mandir in Mauritius.

Idol worship is one of the main precepts of Hinduism. The idol is a symbol, a form, with which the mind can be connected and concentrated upon. More than any abstract concept, an image or a symbol (yantra) is the best aid to concentrate and control ones mind and attention. By keeping the mind concentrated on a particular image, the mind can be stabilized. Idol worship helps us to concentrate the energies that emanate from a prayer into one strong flow of current in one particular direction.

In the symbolism section, we explain some of the symbols in Hinduism and their significance. We have a Kirtan Section with the lyrics of some major chants in Hinduism. Hanuman, Shiva and Durga Chalisas are included for now. We will be adding more kirtans in the future and add audio for them too.

We have a mantra chanting section to help you meditate. It loops through the mantras for continuous repetitive chanting of these powerful mantras. You can listen in through your iphone loudspeakers or through tour iphone headsets.

ING is pleased to present a groundbreaking new app for the iPhone.

Did you ever want to wish your neighbor happy holidays, but weren't sure when his or her religion has holidays or what to say? Have you ever blanked on the Hebrew word for charity? Are you planning a luncheon and need to know when Ramadan ends so you can feed your Muslim guests? Multifaith News and Events has all that and more.

It's not simply a calendar of holy days, or a dictionary of important religious terms. Multifaith News and Events is much more. This app comes with over 200 interesting facts - some trivial, some wildly important - about the five major world religions represented by ING's Interfaith Speakers Bureau: Islam, Judaism, Christianity, Hinduism, and Buddhism.

The general concept for this app is to allow users to easily acquire daily news and information surrounding religion and interreligious issues.

These include:

o Daily aggregation of news articles on religious pluralism from several different news publications. Topics include religion in the workplace, religion and civil rights, 1st Amendment (freedom of religion) issues, etc.

o Multifaith calendar highlighting religious days of observance. Holidays will contain brief descriptions as well as links for more information.

o List of religious events and conferences around the country.

o Basic and often surprising facts about the world's five major religions: Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Judaism and Islam. For added interest, related facts will link to each other; for instance you can easily see how fasting works in both Judaism and Islam.

o Information about Islamic Networks Group and its educational programs.

Designed and developed by Magnicode, Multifaith News and Events is the go-to app for interreligious information, events and more.

Primarily joining the brotherhood of Sadhu's (less than 10% of sadhus are women) is like going back in time, to become harmonious with nature, their guru and each other, while connecting to the Divine with an intuitive call and connection. Wandering Sadhus travel India and Nepal serving, communing and attaining wisdom as to the mysteries of the Divine.

Having lived in multi cultural environments within the United States and having learned to appreciate the differences within humanity has given her the drive to explore other cultures and religions. Her love for the east Indian culture and specifically Buddhism and Hinduism as experienced in Nepal and India, has given her the inspiration to continue her love of other cultures and religions through photography as her art expression.

"I especially love shooting in India and Nepal because of the numerous religious celebrations where a deep devotion with the Divine can be experienced in age old traditions." She adds, " the colors, symbolism and inherent beauty is easy for me to see in India and Nepal to spite the obvious challenges of poverty, difficult conditions and hardships Her people face and experience."
