Comment about using the iPhone to determine a user position

The accuracy of the position is dependent of the data sent to the iPhone.

The device may define the user position by using GPS, Wi-Fi or triangulation from 3 mobile transmission towers.

Wi-Fi is the most accurate method to define a position. If there is no Wi-Fi available, the device will use either GPS or triangulation.

GPS (available on iPhone 3G and iPhone 3Gs) is very accurate as well, but may be limited when used indoors.

Triangulation works on every type of iPhone, but only when the signal is strong. It is not as accurate as GPS. If the device is not able to define the position correctly, a nearby position will be displayed instead.

For this reason, there may be variances in the user location displayed and that is unfortunately beyond our sphere of influence. Please be aware of this while using the application.

Boston, MA - Framingham Heart Study researchers have developed a new sex-specific general cardiovascular disease prediction tool that they hope will encourage primary-care physicians to make greater use of such algorithms [1]. Dr Ralph B D'Agostino (Framingham Heart Study, Boston, MA) and colleagues report their findings online January 22, 2008 in Circulation.

They explain that the despite the availability of several validated disease-specific risk-prediction algorithms—such as the current Framingham risk score, which predicts risk of coronary heart disease only—their use has lagged in primary care. "We believe physicians want to know how to prevent all cardiovascular diseases. They don't like to look at a patient and say, for you I'm going to prevent coronary disease, for you stroke, etc, etc," senior author Dr William B Kannel (Framingham Heart Study) explained.

Heart Age, based on the well-established and highly respected Framingham Risk Score, uses standard risk factors for heart disease or stroke (such as age, weight, gender, cholesterol, blood pressure and smoking) to estimate a person's "u2018Heart Age', which could be higher than their chronological age if their personal CVD risk factors are high.

What's the difference between your app and apps that provide GPS based tracking?

1) In this app, the runner does not have to run with their mobile device in order to be tracked. Our app accesses the timing system used along the course real-time. It is not dependent on GPS signal strength, GPS availability, nor the battery life of a smart phone device.

2) Our app is the Official Mobile Application for the 2011 LIVESTRONG Austin Marathon and Half Marathon and allows a spectator to search the official race registration for an athlete to follow.

Q: Why aren't the maps more detailed?
A: We can only include so much map detail in an app small enough to be downloaded wirelessly!

Q: What makes 'Coverage?' unique?
A: There is no other tool out there that allows you to overlay coverage maps from all the major carriers. Coverage has done the labor intensive work to create aligned, standardized interpretations of each carrier's reported coverage. For travelers who have devices on multiple networks who need to stay connected as they roam, this information is essential. Unlike checking individual carrier websites, Coverage is fast and easy, and it works even when you have a slow connection, or none at all.

Q: What happened to T-Mobile?
A: T-Mobile does not provide detailed maps of Austin in a format that we can incorporate into 'Coverage: SXSW'. The nationwide version of 'Coverage?' does include T-Mobile maps.

Note: Coverage is a Universal iPad / iPhone app. It does however require iOS 4.2 - the mapping overlay technology we use was not possible in earlier iOS versions.

Note that the maps in Coverage are our own proprietary interpretations of the coverage reported by each carrier. You should not rely on the maps in Coverage to be perfectly precise or comprehensively up to date, though we intend to regularly update them.

We can of course make no promises as to where you'll *actually* get signal. The goal of Coverage is to give you an indication of where you're most likely to catch a wave, not provide neighborhood level precision.
